This awesome edition of Balcones French Oak was bottled for the distillery’s 10th anniversary in 2019. The Texas single malt was, as the name suggests, matured in French oak casks, blending tradition with new Texan styles. Bottled at 59.9% ABV, the bold expression is choc full of chocolate and brown sugar, with some stone fruit coming through from the maturation.
Nose: Cola cubes, brown sugar, smoked meat and new leather, with cooked plum, truffle and peach, with burnt toasted teacake and a hint of clove-studded orange.
Palate: Viscous, with oak char, treacle and cigar box, dried mango and browned butter, with bittersweet dark chocolate alongside caramel digestive.
Finish: Oily malt alongside cacao, pine resin and a lengthy, peppery finish.
