From the brilliant Domaine des Hautes Glaces over in France comes a fab rye whisky! Dubbed Obscurus, the Latin word for ’mysterious’, it’s distilled from organic rye. It was left in oak barrels for 78 months (also known as six and a half years) until it was bottled at 52.5% ABV, with an outturn of just 666 bottles. Spooky.
Nose: New leather and candied nuts, with salted caramel, red grape skin and hints of snuffed match.
Palate: Spicy to the fore, with peppery oak and lots of cinnamon, leading into berry jam and roasted coffee bean.
Finish: Ground almond and anise, with cinnamon French toast and hints of eucalyptus.
