Brocéliande is a place of legend. Nobody is sure exactly where it lies, there are tales of unusual weather, perhaps even men being able to summon rain, as well as rumours of fairies, magical fountains and even Merlin’s tomb… It’s what Tolkien named Beleriand after, although many forests in his works hold properties that may have been inspired by Brocéliande. The folk at Distillerie des Menhirs believe the location of this semi-mythical forest lies within central Brittany and have even acquired Brocéliande oak casks to mature their whiskies within after an initial period spent in ex-Cognac casks. After working their own magic with local buckwheat to produce the spirit, it seems they’ve found a little more for the maturation!
