Kinahan’s has introduced The Kasc Project, which aims to delve into the unknown regarding whiskey making, using hybrid casks (kascs?). Each cask has been constructed from five different types of wood, including Portuguese, American, French and Hungarian oak, as well as chestnut. The result is a complex blend marrying all different types of cask. Innovative stuff from Ireland.
Nose: Juicy autumnal fruit, namely plum, alongside pear and apple crumble. Sweeter aromas of rich caramel and pineapple peek through, supported by a spicy undertone.
Palate: Somewhat syrups, with prominent charred oak, barbecued mango and more caramelised tropical fruit with a scattering of vanilla pod. Creamy fruit and nut chocolate drizzled with runny caramel.
Finish: Aromatic, Christmassy notes of nutmeg and clove, orange oil and brown sugar, with caramelised pineapple.
