William Grant’s Ghosted Reserve 26 Year Old is a blended malt Scotch whisky featuring whisky from two closed distilleries – Ladyburn and Inverleven. Both distilleries have been silent for quite a while indeed, with Inverleven being mothballed in 1991 and Ladyburn being closed back in 1975, so seeing their spirit released is always pretty awesome – seeing released together in a blended malt adds yet more intrigue!
Nose: Cashew nuts and toffee with hints of dark chocolate. Fresh orange peel and cinnamon. Freshly baked bread and cereal notes come through later.
Palate: Spices immediately come to the fore – cinnamon, vanilla pods and pepper. Then lots more orange peel, along with other tropical fruits including pineapple and papaya. Warm toffee and raisin notes underpin the proceedings.
Finish: Warm and long, moving away from the spice character and towards the dark chocolate – reminiscent of sticky toffee pudding. Tasty.
