The second release of Ma from the Elements of Islay series, this a vatting of four first fill peated bourbon barrels which aged at a particularly northern Islay distillery for thirteen years. The distillery is built at the mouth of the Margadele River, which is where this single malt Scotch whisky gets its name from, and is bottled at 55.2% ABV.
Nose: Salted popcorn, medicinal peat and a touch of seaweed, with dried banana and some lemon sorbet.
Palate: Honey-roasted cashews, red apples and vanilla sweetness, followed by barley sugar and lemon juice. A coastal breeze, with iodine and tar, compete in the backdrop.
Finish: Damp oak and elegant smoke lingers, with a touch anise below.
