The Hanyu Distillery opened in 1941 but sadly closed its doors in 2000, meaning that casks from the Japanese distillery remain are a rarity. One of the few remaining casks has been used as a base for this blended malt, dubbed Sanmi-Ittai, which combines Hanyu malt whisky with carefully selected malts. Sanmi-Ittai means Trinitas in Latin, which also means Trinity in English, chosen as a tribute to the three founders of Hanyu.
Nose: Delicate and fresh, aromas of sweet, floral malt, fresh pancakes and maple syrup, damp oak and a floral bouquet.
Palate: A good helping of toasted malt, sultana and a creamy vanilla note with apple juice and a pinch of tobacco.
Finish: Cloudy honey on the finish, with toasted cashew and dried apple.
