Here we have an awesome single barrel bourbon from Woodford Reserve, this Double Oaked was bottled especially for the British Bourbon Society! It’s first matured in new charred white oak barrels, like all Woodford Reserve bottlings, but is finished in a heavily toasted, lightly charred barrel before it’s bottled up at 45.2% ABV. Woodford Reserve no longer produces single barrel bottlings of its much-loved Double Oaked expression, so this is a rare and suitably delicious find.
Nose: Hickory smoked nuts and dried fruits, with a savoury, smoked meat undertone. Sweeter notes of ripe peach and gentle vanilla appear, but it remains remarkably savoury.
Palate: Well rounded and viscous, with an almost barbecued note, leading into sweet smoke supported by rich millionaire shortbread, raisins and baking spices.
Finish: A lovely lick of savoury oak makes for a long, dry finish.
