27 year old single malt from the Aultmore distillery, independently bottled for the Mackillop’s Choice range. This was distilled in May 1990 and matured in a bourbon cask until September 2017, when it was bottled at cask strength with an outturn of 210 bottles. You’ll often seen Aultmore with plenty of Sherried notes, but here’s a delicious chance to taste their whisky with full-on bourbon cask influence.
Nose: Gingerbread fresh from the oven, dried oak, apple crumble and some orange peel.
Palate: Peppercorn and yet more ginger. The citrus elements add plenty of pep, while melted chocolate and salted butter give it a rich creaminess.
Finish: Brandy snaps, nectarine and a very light whiff of oak-y smoke.
