Another excellent release from the Xtra Old Particular range – this time, it’s a 21 year old Ledaig single malt, so get ready for a peaty treat. Tobermory distilled this whisky on the Isle of Mull back in July 1997 and left it to age in a single refill hogshead until May 2019, when it was bottled with an outturn of only 260 bottles by Douglas Laing.
Nose: The nose is massively smoked initially then comes a leathery quality with smoked meats and iodine.
Palate: The palate shows the same delicious smokiness – streaky bacon, peated barley and fire embers
Finish: The finish brings a subtle sweetness (burnt brown sugar) with the same big, peated quality that just goes on and on and on.
