Part of Douglas Laing’s fabulous Xtra Old Particular series comes this 40 year old single grain Scotch whisky from Port Dundas. It was distilled way back in January 1978, and it spent the following four decades (!) in a refill hogshead. Xtra Old indeed. The whisky was then bottled in December 2018 at its natural cask strength, 58.7% ABV, with an outturn of 163 bottles.
Nose: The nose opens in a sweetly spiced style, warming to gentle oak and spun sugar.
Palate: The palate coats the mouth in citrus sherbet, vanilla fudge and sweet cereal.
Finish: The vanilla appears strongly on the finish – oh so sweet with muscovado sugar.
